5 Day Gas Measurement Fundamentals Certification
November 3 - 7, 2025 | Lamar University - Center for Midstream Management and Science
OVERVIEW
In addition to the following topics:
- Explore the fundamentals of gas flow measurement, including natural gas chemistry and physical behavior
- Understand common standard conditions of measurement in quantity and quality determination
- Fundamental physical laws that define the behavior of gases
- Learn the relationship between primary and secondary elements in gas measurement, gas composition, gas laws, and industry definitions
- Discover the best practices of electronic flow measurement
- How to conduct and witness a meter test
- How to take a meter out of service
- Understand industry standards for custody transfer and non-custody transfer measurement
- Get an overview of the industry organizations and the people who write measurement standards
- How measurement language in contracts guides field operation procedures
- What makes a sample representative of the gas stream
- What are the various sample techniques
- Main challenges of collecting samples and how they are overcome
- How gas chromatography is used to determine the quality of a gas and to calculate its physical properties
,instruction addresses linear meters (coriolis, ultrasonic, and turbine), the complete EGM system (primary, secondary, and tertiary devices), and the impact of measurement uncertainty based on processes and practices. The course combines both lecture and hands-on exercises based on following industry standards and how deviation can induce measurement error.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- By participating in this instructor-led course, professionals currently working in the field will gain hands-on knowledge directly from industry and OEM experts, enabling them to immediately apply practical skills in their day-to-day operations. Participants still pursuing their education will benefit from industry-relevant instruction that bridges classroom theory with real-world applications. All participants will receive a Certificate of Completion upon fulfilling the courseย requirements.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Lamar University students and regional field personnel.
This certification course takes a comprehensive approach in a condensed format by combining theory, exercises, hands-on activities, and assessment (testing) delivered by professionals with extensive industry experience and subject matter expertise. By understanding how industry standards and best practices relate to processes, technology, and techniques, participants can learn the why procedures are performed in a specific manner.
