Throughout this year’s disruption caused by the global pandemic, we have actively sought the best method to continue providing training to oil and gas professionals on the fundamentals of both SCADA and hydrocarbon measurement.
Gas Certification Institute (GCI) is now offering interactive online training for the Fall 2020 training season. This digital delivery of measurement training and education will include classes in November and December.
- November 10-13: SCADA Fundamentals Certification
- November 16-19: Gas Measurement Fundamentals Certification (Week 1)
- December 7-11: Gas Measurement Fundamentals Completion class (Week 2)
Our live, virtual courses include everything you have come to expect from our in-person training. This includes expert instructors, digital course materials to take notes and follow along during the class, and real-time Q&A opportunities with the instructors.
What is Required for Interactive Online Training?
Many oil and gas professionals have likely participated in online training. Our focus is to take what you know about the typical online training experience and elevate it through interactive training.
Interactive is deeply embedded in the digital classroom environment we created. Although there are some requirements to participate in our online classes, it’s highly likely that you will meet most, if not all, of the requirements:
- A computer (Windows-based is preferred)
- Reliable Internet connection
- Web camera
- Microphone / headset
We use Cisco Webex Training as our platform for remote connections. You do not need a Webex account to participate remotely. You can join training sessions using only your web browser. There’s nothing to download or install.
As with in-person training, you should be prepared to do your part to get the best experience in an online class:
- Join from a quiet place.
- Limit distractions.
- Position your camera properly.
- Use the Webex tools.
- Participate by asking questions.
- Avoid multi-tasking.
If you do not have experience with online training or with Webex, do not worry! We are committed to helping you become comfortable with the technology and format to get the most out of the experience.
Our goal is to take the in-person classroom training environment that we typically offer at our facility in Houston, Texas, and replicate this experience through digital delivery. This will enable oil and gas professionals to gain a deeper understanding of measurement fundamentals, apply this understanding to your role, and return to the field with confidence.

Register for SCADA Fundamentals Certification
SCADA environments require unique management and security considerations compared to a traditional enterprise network environment. Our SCADA Fundamentals Certification course provides participants with a detailed understanding of industry standards as well as how to safely and properly safeguard against the typical vulnerabilities that exist in SCADA systems.
One of the benefits of registering for our new interactive online delivery of the SCADA Fundamentals class is the opportunity to receive training on SCADA best practices, fundamentals, and trends without having to travel to Houston for the class.
By taking our class, we are confident that controllers, operations managers, support personnel, and other oil and gas professionals will return to their role with increased knowledge and understanding of SCADA environments to support their company.
Register for Gas Measurement Fundamentals
Oil and gas measurement personnel need to be able to advance their understanding of why gas measurement procedures are in place. This way, measurement professionals can achieve consistency in their measurement, which produces accuracy.
We support this objective through our Gas Measurement Fundamentals Certification class. We
typically offer this class over a consecutive two-week period in Houston. Now, through interactive online training, we are breaking up the class into two separate weeks in November and December.
We anticipate meeting the following needs through this delivery of Gas Measurement Fundamentals:
- Register for both weeks of the class Nov. 16-19 and Dec. 7-11.
- Register for just Week 1 (Gas Measurement Fundamentals & EFM Best Practices) and return at a later time for Week 2.
- Register for just Week 2 if you have already completed Week 1 during a previous in-person training session.
Oil and gas professionals can complete this registration process through our online registration option. We will handle your registration needs to support the appropriate delivery of training.
