The team at Gas Certification Institute (GCI) attended the 2019 Appalachian Gas Measurement Short Course (AGMSC) July 29 through August 1 in Pittsburgh.
Why Did We Attend AGMSC 2019?
We look forward to attending each year’s AGMSC conference to connect with gas measurement professionals about the latest trends and developments in the industry.
Our team also enjoys learning from the leading minds in gas measurement. This helps us grow our understanding of the latest challenges in the industry, the latest techniques used to support reliable and consistent measurement, and emerging technology used in the field.
We then drop this education into our approach to the training courses that we provide. By understanding the information and conversations happening around gas measurement, we can better serve gas measurement professionals on their career path.
This year, we interacted with many gas measurement technicians, supervisors, engineers, and field personnel at Table 711 in the exhibit hall. We also took advantage of the opportunity to interact with new technology in-person.
AGMSC a Gathering Point for Knowledge Transfer
At its core, AGMSC seeks to promote increased accuracy in gas measurement and pressure regulation to improve safety, efficiency, and economics.
The information is delivered through 90+ lecture classes in 13 sections and 100+ “hands-on” workshops and demonstrations in 22 sections.
Taking place on-campus at Robert Morris University, the combination of lectures and workshops during AGMSC 2019 created a spirited, collegiate atmosphere centered around learning and knowledge-sharing.
A sample of this year’s lectures included:
- Non-intrusive Ultrasonic Meters for Gas MEasurement
- Benefits of Data Validation
- Basic Pressure and Flow Control
- Basics of Turbine Metering
- Basic Application of Flow Computers & Telemetry Systems
- Fundamentals of Pipeline Flow
- SCADA Communications for the Gas Industry
A sample of this year’s workshops included:
- RTU Configurations
- Fundamentals of Gas Composite Sampling
- Electronic Temperature Compensator and Meters
- Next-Generation Flow Computers and RTUs
- Digital Data Recorders to Replace Paper Charts
- Introduction to SCADA Systems
- Advanced Network Security Overview
